First of Her Kind

$ 35.00

One hundred years ago, in 1916, Jeannette Rankin of Montana became the first woman elected to Congress—several years before the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. As Rankin put it, she was “the only woman who ever voted to give women the right to vote.”

Since then, 45 states have elected a female representative, while only 27 a female senator, and 24 a governor.

First of Her Kind features custom illustrations of all 94 women to be the first to serve in these positions for their state, complete with hand-lettered names. The colors of the banners are inspired by the purple, gold, and green traditionally used by suffragists in the United States and United Kingdom.

Like our other posters, proceeds will be donated to charity. For more details about the poster, read our blog post about it.
